IN THE NEWS

Some of the world’s highest-profile
wineries have recently released their new
vintages through La Place de Bordeaux.

“The 2025 campaign underscores the
resilience, perseverance and prestige
of La Place delivering a crafted – and
increased – number of fine wines from
around the world,” says Georgie Hindle
in Decanter.

Bordeaux’s Château Lafleur announced it will be withdrawing its wines from their Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée (AOC) designations. Starting in 2025, Lafleur will be labeled not as Pomerol but as a Vin de France. Critic Jane Anson calls this “the most significant news story of the year” in The Wine Conversation.
France’s 2025 harvest is mostly finished. For the country as a whole, Decanter reports that volumes are expected to be up slightly on 2024 yet down on the five-year average. Great news for Burgundy fans following the tiny 2024 crop: the new vintage is expected to be up around 45% year-on-year.

MARKET INSIGHTS

The latest data from Liv-ex, the global marketplace for the fine wine trade, reveals
some interesting trends and developments — and some regions to watch. These
insights cover the month of August 2025.

The best-performing indices were the Rhône 100, up 1.4%, and the Sauternes 50, up 1.2%. The Italy 100 rose 0.3%, its second consecutive month of growth. These are promising signs.

Champagne is having a moment, with the Champagne 50 rising by 0.7%. Demand for Champagne, as calculated by live bids, is at its highest level since April 2023

The top-traded wines by value include 2015 Vega Sicilia Unico, 2016 Château Lafite Rothschild and 2020 Screaming Eagle. Interestingly, some 7.4% of total trade value for July 2025 was made up of wines from outside Bordeaux, Burgundy, Champagne, Italy, Rhône and the USA — the highest share of trade since August 2020.
